I Love the Illusion - The Life And Career Of Agnes Moorehead (2005) Written by Charles Tranberg This book is the definitive biography of Agnes Moorehead, one of the greatest character actresses of all time. Tranberg details Moorehead's life from her PK (preacher's kid) upbringing, to her launch into radio, and ultimately to her iconic status on the TV show Bewitched, as well as her many movie and TV appearances. The information is presented logically and clearly, and the layout of this 400+ page book makes it easy to read. It's loaded with pictures that I'd never seen before, and despite having a great deal of knowledge about Moorehead's career beforehand, I found out so many interesting facts about her life and times. The author's research and interviews are neatly detailed in a Source section, and there is also an Index, as well as an extensive list of all Moorehead's appearances. Despite the great detail that the author provides regarding Moorehead's life and career, we do see two or more sides to many of the stories. This leaves the reader to truly appreicate the lengths that Moorehead went to to create "the illusion." She was a master at her craft, and even in times of great distress, the show went on due to her staunch work ethic. I have a greater appreciation for her as an actress, and more importantly as a person, having read this book. Well done and highly recommended! |

The Seesaw Girl and Me: A Memoir
(2004) Written by Dick York This is Dick York's autobiography. "The proud father of five, married to his teen sweetheart Joey, the "seesaw girl," York traded success for hardship and financial ruin. The bittersweet story of a poor Midwestern kid who makes good will earn readers’ respect and sympathy". We all know Dick as our "favorite Darrin" and he will never be forgotten for all he did to entertain us. This book is everything you ever wanted to know about Dick, his family, career and life, written in his own words. |
"An astonishing tale of enlightenment in modern day Hollywood"
Written by Billy Clift who was Elizabeth Montgomery's personal Hairdresser, Makeup Artist and close personal friend for 11 years until she left us in 1995.
This book contains the recollections of Billy, covering his first meeting with Elizabeth when she was considering hiring him, through the fun, games and silliness they had during the years they spent together. It covers IN DETAIL the illness she suffered from through her death. He was very close to the family and was at her house the day before she died, participating in a candlelight vigil outside the house for her when they had been told she had very little time left to live. Billy also spoke at her memorial sevice and recollects what he said and how he felt during his turn at the mike. It is a little rough to read all the details of her death, but nonetheless, the facts are all presented here in a respectful way.
Billy was very affected by the spirit of Elizabeth after she left and describes in detail the very real prescence he felt after she died. He carries a message from Liz to all of us that you will have to read to believe.
This is a very interesting and worthwhile book for all who loved Elizabeth Montgomery!

In The Kitchen With Elinor Donahue Favorite Memories and Recipes From A Life In Hollywood
by Elinor Donahue with Ken Beck & Jim Clark
Why a book about Elinor Donahue on the Bewitched Site? Because Elinor was the wife of the late Bewitched Executive Producer Harry Ackerman. The Ackermans and the Ashers (Bill & Liz) were very close friends throughout the run of Bewitched and spent most Sundays together (they shared a limo driver!) as well as spent time together in Palm Springs, going to football/baseball games and raising their families together. This book contains candid shots of Liz, Bill & the Ackermans together which have never been seen before! It also contains a couple of recipes of Elizabeth's that she gave to Elinor (Potted Shrimp, Pg. 162 and Shepherds Pie Pg. 132) as well as the Bloody Mary recipe that came from Scandia's in the 60's, the restaurant the couples used to go to for pre-Rams games brunch and drinks! Even Dr. Bombay (Bernard Fox) gave Elinor a couple of recipes (Cornish Pastry Pg. 121 and Dr. Bombay's Shrimp Curry Pg. 164).
It also has a number of stories about Liz & Bill and the fun times they spent together. Photos include: 2 photos playing touch football with Liz, Bill, the Ackermans and Larry Hagman (one in a close-up huddle!) a photo of the Ackerman/Ashers at a public ceremony, Harry & Liz together being presented with awards from the Radio & Television Daily Magazine, 1964, and a picture Elinor took of Rebecca Asher and her son Chris celebrating their bithday together (Rebecca looks to be about 3 years old) with a little story behind each photo. I have never seen any of these cool pictures before! There are also 2 photos of Bernard Fox and one with Barbara Eden during the I Dream Of Jeannie years as well.
Don't let the cookbook designation fool you (though the recipes are excellent and many come from other famous people as well), this book reads more like an autobiography. Elinor was best known for her work on "Father Know's Best" as Princess (Betty Anderson) as well as for her work on The Andy Griffith Show, Star Trek, The Odd Couple, and Dr. Quinn: Medicine Woman. Her career spanned 6 decades beginning in the 1940's as a youngster, and looking through this book feels like a virtual who's who in Hollywood - Elinor has worked with all of the greats! I had no idea that she had done so much acting and with so many famous people, she truly has had an amazing career. Even if you have no idea who Elinor Donahue is, you will still find this to be a fascinating read. Bewitched fans will not be disappointed with the stories and photos included here - the book is highly recommended! Thank you to Peter Ackerman for sharing your memories and your friendship, as well as for sending me autographed copies of this great book!

(Click here to order DVD shown below) Rediscover the series you thought you knew by heart! You have NEVER seen the missing scenes that are included on this DVD as they were cut from the syndicated shows. Think you know EVERY word by heart? NOT! You will love seeing the scenes you forgot after they were shown on their first run. This is my second favorite TV series of all time, I grew up idolizing Jan and Marcia, and worked very hard to make my hair look like theirs! Who would have thought this relatively low-budget show would become a pop culture icon??? I met Maureen McCormick back in the early 70's and she signed a picture in a magazine I had. She was a little shy, but very sweet. I don't have to summarize the series for you, we ALL know what it's about!! Extras: |
(Click here to order DVD shown below) Here is the second season - the kids are growing up! See Marcia fall for Harvey Klinger the bug collector, watch Jan make up an imaginary boyfriend when Clark Tyson falls for Marcia instead of her, and of course, see Peter break mom's vase (while playing ball in the house!) |
The Partridge Family - First Complete Season GR@@VY!! Well, you can't have Bewitched and Brady DVD's without Partridge Family DVD's. Did you know that Maureen McCormick wished she was a Partridge rather than a Brady? Did you know the Partridge Family exteriors were filmed on the same backlot as Bewitched? you can see Sam and Darrin's house just down the street all the time when you are watching Partridge episodes. And were you in love with David Cassidy too? Guys included! ;-))) Again, uncut, like you have never seen with all the musical numbers included, I hope they continue to release later seasons too! |
