Welcome to my tomato site! I grow many different tomato varieties and report my results here each year for all to learn from. I love growing, eating & canning tomatoes! The difference with me is that I also love keeping notes on the growth habits and the taste of all the tomatoes I grow. I could never just throw in a bunch of nursery bought seedlings, leaving them to produce tomatoes with no note-taking involved!

I spend months reading commercial seed catalogs and the Seed Saver Exchange's catalog deciding which varieties I will grow during the season. I start my tomato seeds under full spectrum lights in a climate controlled environment, then harden them off in my cold frame so they are ready to plant when the time is right for our gardens. I belong to the Decorah, Iowa Seed Savers Exchange and believe in growing open pollinated varieties as well as hybrids. I save the seed from my favorite heirlooom fruits for use in next years garden, something I encourage all of you to do. It's fun, economical, and easy! Additionally, you always know you have fresh seed, unlike some of the ones you buy commercially.

For the results of the tomato trials, see below - I've already weeded out poor performers for you! I hope to continue to trial many varieties in the future and to report my results here so all can benefit.
